Amazon GESS Safety Training
Construction sites are dangerous places, with large mobile equipment and heavy objects being lifted off the ground. Amazon’s construction sites are no different, and they needed to ensure workers were taking the safest precautions.
The Learning Operations Program Manager for Amazon GESS reached out to MMG to visually communicate on-site, energy-based hazards to workers and the protocols they were required to follow to stay safe.
The goal was to communicate these risks in a thoughtful way, showing respect for those who had fallen in the line of duty while also helping current workers understand the potential dangers of not following protocol.
We met with the Learning Operations Program Manager and the Head of Construction Safety for Prime Air. They leveraged their expertise to guide us through each job site, and the potential energy hazards workers could encounter, allowing our design team to recreate them through illustrations.
Working cross-functionally with our content and video teams, we created eight videos that carefully detailed what these potentially dangerous situations could look like in the context of the construction teams’ work, along with the safe and unsafe choices workers could face.

Using these safety videos, Amazon was able to provide workers with clear instruction on the safety precautions necessary to help everyone get home safely at the end of the day.
We also created posters, stickers, and metal coins featuring the Energy Wheel. On-site managers now use these coins to recognize and reward workers for following safety protocols.
